Tamworth 1-1 Leicester City
The Lamb is home of Tamworth (The Lambs). My (Ross) journey started at 11:47 by catching the local bus to Burton-on-Trent which took a long 2 hours to get to. I eventually reached Burton at 13:05 and walked towards the railway station. On my way towards the station, I bumped into Derby County supporters going in the opposite direction towards the Pirelli Stadium for the Burton Albion verses Derby County encounter. The train towards Cardiff Central arrived at 13:48 and took only 10 minutes before reaching Tamworth where I met up with Adrian. Before The Lamb was built, the site was used as a pig farm during the 19^th Century. Tamworth have played at The Lamb since 1934 after moving from the Jolly Sailor ground which was just across the River Tame and named it The Lamb as there was a pub called ‘The Lamb Inn’ which was located where the ground’s car park now stands. In 1969, floodlights were installed at The Lamb before the construction of the Main stand in 1997 which helped the ground reach a capacity of 4,000. Before the kick off, we brought a programme which was an A4 sheet of paper folded in half for 20p. Both sides found it hard in the humid conditions with frequent drink breaks throughout the game but in the secomd half, Bruno Berner scored for City before a last minute goal by Tamworth’s Nick Wright from 25 yards to end the game as a 1-1 draw. Overall the ground is a nice non-league ground and would need vast improvements if promoted into the Football League.
